ART IS BORN OF THE OBSERVATION AND INVESTIGATION OF NATURE.

BEHIND THE PAINT BRUSH
About Zoe
Graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Grad Diploma in Teaching and Learning, Zoe has established herself as an artist and private art tutor within Canterbury. While being a mother of three, in a very busy household, Zoe has created artworks for local exhibitions and galleries as well as commission pieces. In recent years, Zoe has enjoyed creating artworks for solo exhibitions at Arts in Oxford, The Chamber Gallery and Art on the Quay. She is also a member of the Waimakariri Community Arts Council and Arts Canterbury.
MY WORK
The overall theme connecting my artwork is a love of natural, organic forms such as leaves, flowers and birds, which appeal aesthetically for their contour, shape and design quality. I enjoy offsetting these fluid forms against the geometric shapes and hard lines of surrounding architecture.
I am fascinated by light and its effect on colour. I use mixed-media (ink and acrylic) to create luminous layers of colour and textured patterning, giving the impression of light filtering through natural forms.
I enjoy creating a sense of mystery and depth, by extending lines and curves out to create a faceted effect, disguising the subject within the overall pattern. This dynamic interplay between the foreground and background creates a fluidity; having forms coming and going, emerging out of the background then disappearing behind a solid line or block of colour.
